Case Study - Web Based Application for Wine and More Promotions

In 2015 Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design was contacted by Wine and More Promotions LLC (www.wineandmorepromotions.com) to build a custom web based online portal to help their business. After an initial consultations we learned that Wine and More had a fantastic business model but was just getting tied down with day to day manual paper based processes.

As a company that was currently handling multiple events every weekend and still growing it was the perfect time to streamline and automate some processes.

The Analysis

All big projects require a detailed analysis to make sure that all the important users, scenarios, and required functionality is identified. Wine and More Promotions web based application was no different.

This process took about a month, of meetings, phone call, and gathering all the required information. From here identified the following

The Design

Once the analysis phase was complete Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design was able to start on the design. We broke the design phase down into three main areas.

Database Design

The database design process had us breaking down the information to the most basic levels and finding out how it relates to each other. During this phase we were in contact with Wine and More Promotions to make sure all information required was being captured. At Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design we take the approach that it is always better to asked for information and not need it than to not ask for it and need it.

Screen Concept Design

After all the database fields, business rules and required reports were finalized and signed off on we could start designing the layouts for the information. As with all projects Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design works on we make sure to identify key demographics for our site users. The main points we had to take into account for this projects was:

This demographic information allowed us to make sure we designed a site, that was streamlined, clean, quick, and easy to use.

During this screen concept design process, we hand drew screen layouts for both mobile, and PC screens, and sent them to Wine and More Promotions for approval.

Once all the screen designs were finalized and approved, we were able start programming a basic framework of the site to show what and how information would actually be displayed on a web page. This allows us one final chance to make any required changes before connection the concept screen to the application and database.

The Programming

Once all the design was complete Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design started coding the portal. For this project we used the Silverstripe Content Management System, to provide us with a secure base to start with. From the starting point the project had over

The programming phase took several month to complete with Wine and More Promotions testing functionality as completed different areas of the web based application.

We spent months looking at the code like the screen. After the final line of code was completed, tested and approved, we got to launch.

The Launch

The new portal was launched seamlessly into Wine and More Promotions everyday business and sales representatives quickly become accustomed to using the online application as well as communicate with Wine and More Promotions and manage their schedule.

Post Event Support

Since launching the project Convene IT USA / Fulshear Web Design has made several updated to the application, to reflect changes in the industry. As Wine and More Promotions get more streamlined they are continually finding ways to make their business more streamlined and we are happy to help them.
